Hoggs Hollow Information

Hoggs Hollow is an enclave Neighbourhood that is both exclusive as well as unique situated within the York Mills Neighbourhood. Boundaries: York Mills Road to the north, and east from Yonge Street to Doncliffe Drive to the south. It is anchored by the Loblaw’s grocery store to its southern most tip. Hoggs Hollow is an enchanted area, located in a valley dotted with lush tree lined winding streets, pretty cul-de-sac streets, and the historic Don River winds through the area. Brookfield Park is used for community tennis courts and local community events that service this Neighbourhood.  The area is unspoiled, with no sidewalks, and is reminiscent of a time long ago...it really has a country feel, where time stands still.

Historically, Hoggs Hollow is named after a Scotsman named James Hogg who settled here in 1824. A successful businessman, he operated a whiskey distillery and a grist mill. In 1856 James Hogg's sons subdivided his land under the name "Hoggs Hollow" comprised of 110 lots. Only a handful of homes were built, and today there are only four of the original homes still standing. In the 1920's this area began to be built up.

Today Hoggs Hollow is one of the priciest neighbourhoods in Toronto. Many homes have been rebuilt on properties that are lush, and picturesque. There is a mixture of English Cottage, Tudor, Colonial, Georgian and ultra modern architecture dotted throughout Hoggs Hollow.

Hoggs Hollow also has a mix of luxurious townhomes that overlook the valley. Susan Macarz, Broker with Re/Max Ultimate, has sent her children, when they were younger, to a local nursery school and summer day camp in the Hoggs Hollow Neighbourhood. She has also had clients wishing to buy and sell in this enclave. The local community hosts community events that are posted on signposts on Mill St. and on a bulletin board in the Millstone Parkette on Plymbridge Road. The Hoggs Hollow community is very family orientated with children's playgrounds and tennis courts. For golfers, there is the Don Valley Golf Course just minutes north of York Mills Road.

The schools in the Hoggs Hollow Neighbourhood are the same as for York Mills Neighbourhood while many of the residents in this enclave send their children to private schools. Similarly many families belong to private Golf and Country Clubs in the area such as The Granite Club or Rosedale Golf Club. Shopping is nearby south on Yonge Street with lots of retail stores and restaurants. Alternatively, York Mills Plaza, is a short drive away.

Local landmarks include the Miller Tavern which is a historical landmark, formerly known as The Jolly Miller & currently The Miller Tavern. The George S. Pratt house circa 1886 located at 17 Mill Street is another historical landmark in Hoggs Hollow.
